First of all, Shane and Bill, the guides, were great. Secondly the float itself was fine as advertised. Plenty fun but never too scary. BUT, PAUL the owner was rude and completely unprofessional. We were told to show up at 915. We showed up at 9:18 and as we got out to get ready he never addressed us but made several passive-aggressive comments, such as "Bill, this other group showed up right on time so just whenever they are ready well just go ahead and go." Then when I apologized to the group for being late, he said " that's alright it's not like I pay them by the hour or anything" I wont bore you with his persistent attitude and every comment. I was with my kids so I chose not to make a scene and Paul was not there when we ended our trip so we did not have words. Suffice it to say this level of customer service is unacceptable. We were late, granted, but embarrassing someone in front of a group is not how you do it. Oh and lunch, was wal-mart deli meats to boot. Spend your money elsewhere. It is time for Paul to find a new career....far away from people.
We thoroughly enjoyed a truly memorable, first-class experience - a long, white-water adventure on a fun part of the Colorado river with beautiful views, a very knowledgeable and passionate guide (who also puts together a wonderful picnic lunch in a great location mid-trip). Our guide grew up in the area and showed us a great many interesting things about the geology, plant life, railroad, town, river and human history on the river. The price was very reasonable - especially when paired with High Lonesome Outfitters for Saddle and Paddle (a morning of riding and an afternoon of rafting). The company also accommodated our dietary restrictions. It's well worth the hour-drive from Steamboat or a 45-minute drive from Vail. We will be back.
We went on a rafting trip last week, and had a great experience. There were several large groups that had more people show up than reserved, but everyone got to raft and we had a great time. We did the half day, and two of us did the ducky (1 or 2 person inflatable kayak). This was a pretty relaxing trip, some rapids but nothing that could put you in the water or in danger. If you've rafted before and want a little more action, but aren't ready to put on a helmet and get serious adrenaline going, I recommend the ducky. The man that runs the tours was informative, made us feel safe, and accommodating.
